Friends and Fellow Bowlers turned out in force to pay an emotional tribute to Bexhill Bowling Club Chairman Bob Mason as his funeral cortege visited the club’s ground in Richmond Road, Bexhill today. Representatives in Club Colours from throughout the area lined the street and spontaneously applauded as the hearse inched past.

Pearl Mason: The bench is from the family. I hope you will all sit a while with Bob & remember the fun times

Sandra Fleming:  Looks beautiful. A special bench for a special man
Sandra WillisWe will all spend time with our Bob. We will remember the fun and laughter he brought to our club xx God bless Bob x
Daughter Nikki  has written on our Facebook page:
On behalf of mum (Pearl), Michelle, Paul, Liz, Lee and I we would like to thank everyone for the kind wishes, cards, phone calls, beautiful flowers and support we have received at this difficult time. We have been overwhelmed with the kindness and are so proud of dad and the massive impact he has had on so many people. It brings us great comfort to know he was loved by so many.

Sandra and Dave Willis: wrote: Bob will be greatly missed he was one of the very large characters of Bexhill Bowls Club and worked very hard always with the interest of the club and its members at the forefront of his mind , always there to help when needed and a great friend.  Our love and deep condolences go out to Pearl and the family at this difficult time. God Bless from Dave and Sandra

Would you kindly pass on our sincere condolences at an appropriate time. Bob enjoyed his bowling, his humour and enthusiasm will be sadly missed both indoors and outdoors.

Colin Hall: Gutted to here of the sad passing of friend Bob our club chairman and larger than life stalwart of our club over many years. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to Pearl and her family at this very sad time. God bless
Michael Knights: He will really be missed, always there with a quip when needed and advice when required, a truly great person
John Bishop: wote: I will never forget my first club afternoon.During the tea interval, Bob announced to the Club:We have a new member here with us this afternoon“Welcome John Bishop He tells me that he is not from Liverpool and that he is not a comedian,Well let me tell you something, I have watched him this afternoon and his bowling’s a bleeding joke. It’s certainly had me laughing.”That was some introduction, but Bob said it with a twinkle in his eye and you just could never take offence at anything he said. It was always good humoured and without malice. He went on to help and encourage me to get involved with club matches and internal competitions and because of that support my enjoyment of bowls has been the richer.Let me also say this:I would not be doing what I do now for the club had it not been for Bob’s enthusiasm and love of Bexhill Bowling Club. I was really looking forward to Bob’s involvement as Chairman and the club will now be an empty, sombre, quiet place. His mere presence would lift the atmosphere and spirits of those around him  He made life feel a whole lot better.
